Archie Dickson (Brief biography as of 2005)
After graduation, I joined Marconi and worked in radio-electronics before moving into computing development – system design, project management and consultancy.
This was followed by a move to the Bank of Scotland in 1973 working in similar areas in the bank's IT department.
I stopped work there in 1998 having been diagnosed with very painful repetitive strain injury in my arms, due to too much keyboarding work. Workplace ergonomics were not really considered during early computing days. I still am disabled, and have great difficulty in writing and typing.
I am married, and have lived in Linlithgow since 1973. I have two daughters – one is a language teacher and the other is a chemistry graduate.
Currently I spend a fair bit of time working in the voluntary sector – providing adult basic education courses and acting as a public library ‘computer buddy'. Having taken up Taoist Tai Chi to help my arm mobility and provide muscle relaxation, I recently qualified as an instructor and now provide classes in Tai Chi to local groups.
