Jem Fraser (Bio 17/05/2024)
After graduating I went into teaching for a short time until marriage and motherhood took over for the 70's. Six children later I was ready to get back to paid work and was offered a job in Kelvingrove Art Gallery in museum education focussing on the Zoology collection.
A whole new world opened and this became my career. After Head of Education in Glasgow Museums for 10 years where I completed the refurbishment and opening of the Museum of Education in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh building, I began another phase in Edinburgh's National Museums of Scotland. Here I was given the opportunity to become the Project Director for the £55m refurbishment of the Royal Museum in Chambers Street which opened in 2011.
After retirement I ran my own consultancy firm for 10 years which takes me to 2019 - heart operation, Covid and the 80th decade!
In between times I have travelled internationally with the job, travelled to see the kids (America and Australia) and taken up art, piano and gardening. It's been quite a roll !
