University of Glasgow
Mathematics and Natural Philosophy Honours Class of 1964

50th Anniversary Reunion

John (Ian) McCall

After graduation I trained as a teacher and started teaching Physics and Mathematics at Marr College, Troon in 1965. Promotion saw a move to Irvine Royal Academy and then Greenwood Academy, Dreghorn, finishing as Assistant Headteacher. In 1992, the three Irvine schools merged into two and senior staff were offered a retirement package. (Retirement 1) At that time Belmont House School in Newton Mearns was looking for a part-time teacher of Physics and I was fortunate to get the post. I spent 10 happy years there. (Retirement 2) Two years later I was back at Belmont for just a couple of classes. (Retirement 3 – final)

Helen and I married in 1967 and have two children – Lindsay who is a pharmacist in the Western in Glasgow and Stuart who is C.A. in Melbourne. Lindsay and her husband have a son Blair (3½). Stuart and his wife have three children – Hannah (8), Patrick (6½) and Scarlett (3½).

In my ‘spare' time I enjoy bowling – indoor and outdoor, I am involved in our Church, play Bridge and enjoy gardening.
