50th Anniversary Reunion

Kenneth J. Macleod

I retired in August 2004 after 39 years in teaching – a career which attracts much negative criticism from many who are disillusioned with the job but one which gave me a great deal of satisfaction and pleasant memories. I have settled in to retiral just fine - indeed, if I feel the urge to do anything unpleasantly energetic I have a wee lie down and the feeling soon passes. Undoubtedly tasks now expand to fill the time available. However, it is a pleasure to do things which I enjoy doing at times of my own choosing.

I still live in Bearsden with my wife, Margaret, and happily we both enjoy good health and are able to sustain our hobbies. Some years ago my daughter, Shona, and son, Ross, both graduated from the University of Glasgow in Mathematics and Mathematics and Physics respectively and I still have three sets of almost identical lecture notes cluttering up my loft!

We enjoy travelling and apart from drinking wine I have established an interest in it and have visited the vineyards of South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Rioja and the sherry bodegas in Andalucia. Apart from travel further afield, we spend a lot of time in the Western Isles, in particular Mull, Harris and Lewis.

My golf handicap has gone up and not down, as was originally planned when I retired.

Since retiral, I have rediscovered the reading habit and I fight mental deterioration by wrestling with "The Wee Stinker" in the Glasgow Herald every Monday morning.
